“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6 ESV
When you are really hungry or thirsty, you are left unsatisfied until when? Until you get “filled”. Sometimes we get a snack to hold us over, though the snack doesn’t truly satisfy. I ask myself, “what have I been feeding on?”. We feed on all kinds of things throughout the day. Hobbies, relationships, work. Some of us feed on social media and news like a bag of Cheetos. At the end we are left with Cheeto fingers and a ruined appetite for something better. I’m left thinking, “I need something more…”
What have you been feeding on in these last few days?
To be reconciled to God through Christ Jesus and be filled with his Spirit is true satisfaction.
He is the Prince of Peace. May we keep our eyes fixed on Him. (See Isaiah 26:3) Consider our earthly relationships. Lets say a friend came to visit for a full day. If you’re too tied to some personal hobby or device, though they are present, you might as well not be. You may simply be too tied to…you. Ever visit a friend who was all about themselves? Have you ever been that friend? I confess, I have been that friend to Jesus. As believers, the Holy Spirit lives in us and the Father and Son are with us. (see John 14:17 and John 14:23)
There are days when I come to realize, I need to put the Cheetos down (the things that don’t satisfy) and tune into this relationship. When I hunger and thirst for righteousness, I find myself blessed and satisfied. To hunger and thirst for righteousness, is to hunger and thirst for Christ – for he is righteous! I can feed on his word; learning from him and following his ways. I can take time to talk to him and better yet, listen. I can ponder the things that are important to him. I can go where he’d go and do what I believe he’d have me do, as I allow God through the Holy Spirit to work through me. In this relationship I’m sure I wont get it right every time. So in the event I mess up, I can repent, trust him, and keep pressing forward. Blessed are you, when you hunger and thirst for righteousness, for you shall be satisfied!
