“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” Matthew 5:7-8 ESV
Jesus is merciful. We are to follow his example. Was his mercy ever based on our performance or more based on his love for us? What is my mercy for others based on, or from? Does my own mercy fizzle out based on the action or reaction of that person, or is it truly God’s mercy working in and through me, which never fizzles? God’s mercy will never fizzle out for you as a believer. And we are continually being confirmed to his image.
Therefore follow Jesus’ example in extending mercy to those who may not deserve it, recalling the truth – that we didn’t deserve it. As you extend mercy, think about the mercy that has been extended to you. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
