Laborers…

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I remember first hearing this statement I pictured us both in the same yoke together. Me and Jesus, hahaha. But truly, there are yokes built for single oxen. Jesus is the one leading and steering through the Holy Spirit. We sometimes want to do all the stuff ourselves, even though his yoke is easy and his burden light. The only thing that makes it hard is when I’m investing too much into this life. Or when I’m doing things alone. Self preservation can also make for a weary journey. If my walk with Jesus isn’t easy and light is it possible I’ve ditched my master? Or am I living as one who thinks I’m supposed to steer? Did I go off to plow that field alone? Am I concerning myself with too many things? Am I trying to do his job?

Doing God’s job is incredibly difficult impossible. Sometimes I think the field isn’t what it should be or perhaps that plant isn’t sprouting up the way it can be and yet, perhaps, Jesus has it exactly where he has it for a purpose. I can water a plant, feed it, tie it off; I can do a lot of things for a plant with issues and still see no growth. I’m called to continue loving on that person, or loving whoever he may steer me toward. But one things for sure, God brings the growth. In my own case, it was 30 some odd years later that my mom got to see God bring the growth to this dying plant.

Let him guide, let him lead, let him do what only he can do…love God, love others, and let go.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Jesus

  1. In my understanding of time, God doesn’t always work quickly. As in the journey of the Israelites in the desert, and then not all saw the promised land. But the story didn’t end there, God’s plan continued. Praise God!
