“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.” Matthew 10:24-25 ESV
malign means to slander, defame, vilify
Basically if they called Jesus Satan they’ll call you Satan or a worker of Satan. And they have. And the more you profess Christ the more it’ll happen, even directly. This in a sense happened to me yesterday after speaking to a very religious Jewish man who claimed to believe in Jesus but not Christianity, I believe he wanted to draw me into works. To him believing in Jesus wasn’t enough and he talked about how we gentiles who simply have put our faith in Christ are all going to hell. If this idea brings you concern, know the freedom you have in Christ, and maybe spend some time in Galatians. Thank God for the true gospel, full of grace, that we can stand secure on the foundation of Christ and the love of our God.
Truth: some people will hate you and think you’re doing Satans work, they did the same thing to our Lord. You, believer, can trust in God; he loves you and he has already paid a great price to bring you home. Hallelujah!
I was reading my through the Bible plan this morning. They address this same thought (I believe) in Mark 3: 22-30.
I sometimes wonder how their reaction played out the moment after they took their final breath here on earth.
