“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.”
Matthew 7:15, 20 ESV
They come to you looking innocent, sometimes looking like a Christian, the word says, “sheep’s clothing”. Can you think of some false prophets that have risen up after Jesus who claim to believe in the God of the Bible? I’ve spoke with some of these who follow a Prophet with the claim that they love God and even Jesus Christ. They seem very nice, however I’ve witnessed some of that bad fruit that gets revealed as you get deeper into the conversation. It’s important to be grounded in the truth of God’s word. If God’s word, Jesus Christ, is the standard for truth, the more you know the truth the easier it is to spot a lie.
Believe Jesus when he himself warns us about false prophets. Consider their fruits and also consider their position on Christ. Here is some more truth concerning false prophets.
1 John 4:1-3 ESV
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 ESV
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
Matthew 24:11 ESV
And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
The test of a Prophet: Are you afraid to leave your prophet?
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 ESV
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.
