“Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:47-50 NIV
Do you know God’s will for you? What does it mean to do the will of God?
Believe in Jesus.
Everything pours out from this. What do you mean, “believe”? First you must believe God is real and that Jesus truly is his Son who carried a cross on your behalf, suffered for your sins and took upon himself the cross to pay the penalty for the choices you’ve made. Do you believe this has been done for you? Do you believe apart from Jesus you had no chance of any relationship with the God who made you? You and I were quickly heading toward judgement and eternal hell?
I consider a person who is the worst of the worst, murderer, pedophile, hater of people. Would I bring that kind of person to live with me in my house? Absolutely not! But it would be more reasonable for me to let him dwell in my house than it is for God to let me dwell in his (apart from Jesus). The gap between you, me and the worst of the worse isn’t as far stretched as the gap between God and us, when it comes to holiness.
The only one who can close the gap is Jesus Christ. Apart from what Jesus has done, we are the worst of the worst, when compared to God. I don’t mean to offend, if this is offensive, but it’s true. We are just not that holy. But God loved us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us. When you spend the rest of your life believing in him, and what he did for you – you will live by the Spirit and not by the flesh, doing the will of God through believing in him. He will pour into you and you will be overflowing, and you will be doing the will of God, as you believe. May every bit of our faith be in him and not ourselves.
