“As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.” Matthew 9:32-34 ESV
Reading this verse and considering how through his word we can get to know him a little more.
Truth: Jesus cast out demons, he is the Son of God.
Jesus understands the feeling of being wrongfully accused and/or judged – but he probably didn’t work through that feeling in the same way we generally work through that feeling. He knew who he was and is, and where he came from. And he knew his works were always genuine. Pharisees didn’t question the work of this demon being cast out, but they questioned the worker. They acknowledged what he did was real, but accused him of doing it by Satan. They most assuredly led some to believe he was a false prophet bound for Hell, though He alone has the power to save.
Jesus could have chosen to walk a path that would have made him look great in their eyes. But He chose not to follow religious leaders, but do the will of his Father. Anyone who has followed Jesus for any amount of time knows that path isn’t always easy.
As the Father sent Jesus, so Jesus has sent his disciples. No matter what we do, may our priority to be to walk in the Spirit, doing the will of God. Follow Jesus.
