Here are some good questions to ponder after reading the 1st chapter of Jonah. I’d suggest just reading the entire book which a short 4 chapter read. God bless!
- What does the storm reveal about God’s sovereignty?
God “hurled” the wind. The lot “fell” on Jonah. The sea “ceased” when He willed it. Nothing in the chapter is random.
→ Do I truly believe God is sovereign over natural forces, circumstances, and even seemingly random outcomes in my life? - What does the storm reveal about God’s mercy?
The storm wasn’t just judgment — it was pursuit. God could have let Jonah go. Instead, He intervened.
→ Do I recognize that some of God’s hardest interruptions may actually be His most loving acts? - What does God’s interaction with the pagan sailors reveal about His heart for the nations?
Before Nineveh ever repents, pagan sailors are praying, fearing the Lord, and offering sacrifices.
→ Do I see that God is already working in places and people I might assume are far from Him?
