With this question, we can go very deep. But with this article I want to keep it simple and to the point. If one were to write a book on this topic, I suppose this may serve as the preface.
Everyone has a will. A desire within based from who they are. And behind every will there is a purpose; a reasoning for that will or desire. God has a will also. What is God’s will, and the purpose of his will? Let’s take a look at what Paul wrote to the Believers in Ephesians; and note, what he wrote is true for the believers of today…
”In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.“
Ephesians 1:7-10 ESV
So what was and is God’s will?
His will was to redeem us through his blood and forgive us according to his grace which he poured out, lavished, upon us. In short, his will and desire was, and is, to save us through Christ Jesus.
For what purpose?
To unite all things in him, things in Heaven and things in earth. To put it plainly, the purpose of his will was to restore and unite what was lost and what was no longer united.
God’s will and desire is to save you and me, for the purpose of uniting us in him – to God be the glory for his amazing grace. His purpose is driven by a pure and undefiled love.
Now that you know his will, and the purpose of his will – consider this next verse through the lens of God’s will and purpose.
”And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.“
1 John 5:14-15 ESV
You can say a prayer in accordance with his will right now and the creator of all things, God almighty, hears you. As you align your will with his, what will you pray for? Who will you pray for? It’s time to pray.
