Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it…

38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Matthew 10:38–39.

This was included in the context for yesterday’s verse. I think one thing to note is none of us are worthy of Christ apart from Christ and his finished work on the cross. But those of us who have been washed and born again, are called to walk in a manner that is worthy (see Ephesians 4:1, Philippians 1:27 and Colossians 1:10) – all verses of which that call us to walk worthy.

Being considered worthy:

Revelation 3:4 ESV
Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

Those who have put on the Lord Jesus being washed clean and sanctified in Christ, those who walk in a manner that is worthy and do not practice sin, Jesus calls worthy. We must let it all go, our sins, our pride, our own way – and replace that junk thinking with a much better way. Instead lets take up our cross and follow Jesus. It makes more sense to lose a bad thing in order to receive a good thing. Let yourself no longer be convinced that this bad thing (a self-willed life) is a good thing.
