Blessed are you, who are Poor in Spirit…

Jesus had crowds from many areas come to see him. That’s what happens when mass healings take place and the word of it gets around. Jesus walks up a mountain to start preaching a message. He’s going to address the masses!

First words recorded in Matthew:

“And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Review and Application

I heard it once interpreted this way. Blessed are those who know their need for God… Those who are completely dependent on him. For more information on that word “poor” in the Greek meaning, check out https://www.studylight.org/language-studies/greek-thoughts.html?article=11?article=

I think the best way for me to apply this truth in my life is to acknowledge this every morning. God, I need you. I am completely dependent on God. Thank you for your forgiveness and the new life you’ve given me through your Son, Jesus Christ. I cannot do this on my own. Jesus later says, “apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). Also be blessed in knowing the Kingdom of Heaven is ours in Christ Jesus. We are Heaven bound because of what God has done. We have been reconciled through Christ!

How would you apply this verse in your walk with God? Please comment below.

  1. Amen brother. The closer I draw near unto God, the more He draws me unto him. There in his absolute glory I am bowed down and poor in Spirit, asking in broken humility for his spiritual hands to work in me.

Keep blogging brother. If you are willing, share this blog with our folks!
